Amazon.com’s Kindle device has been gathering a good amount of e-reader innovations market space. When the first Kindle was officially released, it was sold-out in around five hours showing both the demand and keen interest for the eReader.

Today the Kindle Store hosts and sells more books than they are sold in paper print. According to Wikipeida, James McQuivey of Forrester Research shared that Kindle device sales estimates are ranging around four million, as of mid-2010.

Amazon introduced Audible.com as an online store for downloading and buying Audio versions of e-books. Audible features spoken audio based entertainment, information, and educational programming. The Audible website also sells various digital audiobooks ranging from radio and TV programs to audio versions of famous magazines and newspapers.

Audible was originally launched to serve MP3 needs in the market before Amazon bought it and now serves all forms of devices ranging from Amazon’s own Kindle e-reader to iPad and iPhones. Audible’s content includes over 85,000 audio programs from more than 1,000 content providers and can be downloaded and played back on personal computers, CDs, or AudibleReady computer-based and wireless mobile devices. Audible also provides spoken-word audio products for Apple’s iTunes Store.

According to Audible.com, their clients and users download and usage patterns involved downloading audio files to their computers and then transferring these audio files to MP3 players, personal digital assistants (PDAs), or to smart mobile devices (SMDs) for listening on the go. Users have also shown to transfer, or burn, the content to audio CDs, while some users use digital home entertainment networks to listen to these files. Audible users can have Audible content wirelessly delivered to their smart mobile devices daily removing the need of a computer.
